John S. Strasko, age 69, of Elyria, died on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the Emergency Room at EMH Regional Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 12, 1939 in Lorain. He was a 1958 graduate of Clearview High School.
John served in the US Army. He was very proud to be in the artilliary in Hawaii when they welcomed Hawaii as the 50th state, where he gave the 50 gun salute to welcome.
He was employed as a tow motor operator and inspector for Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria from 1966-1980 when Bendix closed. He then worked for the Elyria City Schools for 21 years in the maintenance dept. until his retirement in 2005
He was a member of Ss Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, Lorain. He was also a member of the Avon & Avon Lake Senior Centers.
John enjoyed being a Hamm radio operator, he received his license in 1972, where his call name was (N8ERK). He also enjoyed traveling and playing cards. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Martha (nee Salaj) 2 sons, Steve (wife, Kathy), of Lorain, Mike of Elyria, and 3 grandsons, Tom, Cory and Jimmy.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Ann (nee Zatroch) Strasko and sister, Mary Ann Uszak in 2003.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Ss Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, 1500 Lincoln Blvd. Lorain. Rev. Edgar Anthony, pastor, will officiate the service. A private burial will be held for the immediate family at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
