John T. Zgola, 85, of Lorain, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Community Health Partners Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on June 21, 1924 in McKeesport, PA and graduated from McKeesport High School. He served with the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After coming to Lorain in 1946 he worked as a meat cutter in various grocery stores. He retired in 1982 after working two decades at Fligner's Market. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local #880. He loved the Cleveland Indians and was very devoted to his Catholic faith.
He is survived by a brother Daniel J. of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ann (nee Kish) in 2007, his father, John in 1984, his mother Mary in 1981, son, Mark Allan Zgola in 1955 and a brother, William.
Friends may gather at the graveside at Calvary Cemetery on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Joseph West, OFM Conv. Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, will officiate. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is in charge of arrangements.
