Jose A. Cruz

Jose A. "Josie" Cruz, age 69, of Lorain, passed away at Ames Hospice in Westlake on Saturday, September 29, 2018 following a short illness.
Born March 4, 1949 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1953. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1968 and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Yorktown for two years.
Jose worked at Ford Motor Company in Avon for 33 years, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and the United Autoworkers Union Local 2000. He loved riding his Harley motorcycle including traveling all over the United States. He also enjoyed following the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavs. Jose also bowled in leagues and enjoyed playing ping pong.
Surviving is wife of 48 years, Magdalena "Maggie" (nee Guzman); children whom he raised like his own, Melanie R. Guzman of Lorain, Melissa "Lila" Armstrong of Las Vegas, Wilfredo "Sito" Guzman Jr. of Lorain, Ashley Jordan of Davenport, Florida and Charlotte Guzman; grandchildren, Isaiah Brenes, Karmel Hampton, RJae Armstrong, Alizah Jordan and Bryce Jordan; a brother, Carlos M. (Irma) Cruz of Lorain; sisters, Carmen Rosa Diaz of Caguas, Puerto Rico and Maria S. Cruz of Tampa, Florida; many nieces and nephews; and his best friends, Luis and Nilsa Martinez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eusebio Cruz and Aurora Ortiz; a brother, Angel Cruz; and his loving dog, Harley.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services at 2:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
