Jose "Cidra" Lino Garcia, age 93, of South Amherst, died on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at his home.
He was born on December 9, 1917 in Cidra, Puerto Rico, moving here over 60 years ago.
Jose was employed in the Blast Furnace Dept. of US Steel, where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel and enjoyed fishing, baseball, watching his favorite team was the New York Yankees.
He is survived by his son: Robert (Pamela) Garcia of South Amherst, step-son: Tony (Patricia) Ither, of Atlanta, Georgia daughter: Maria (Rickman) Fish of Phoenix, AZ and step-daughter: Nellie Ither, of Ponce, PR, 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, brother: Paco Garcia and sisters: Ida and Cote.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Maria Garcia in 2001, parents: Andres and Hepolita Garcia, 1 brother and 1 sister.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. John Retar, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain is handling the arrangements. .
