Jose Ortega

Jose Ortega, 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at his residence while surrounded by his family after suffering a stroke.


He was born April 18, 1923 in Guanajuato, Gto, Mexico; he came to Lorain 57 years ago.


Jose retired from Lorain Works US Steel in 1983, where he worked in the rolling mill. Prior to that, he worked for Lake Terminal Railroad.


He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and a former member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain.


He enjoyed woodworking, playing the guitar and piano.


Surviving is his wife of 16 years, Esther (nee Ramirez); daughters, Julia "Judy" Ortega of Lorain, and Josephine Ortega of Monterey, CA; step daughters, Caridad "Carey" Rivera of Lorain, Maria Mesa of Laredo, TX, and Estela Biczykowski of Lorain; sons, Joseph "Joe", Gregory "Greg" and William "Bill" all of Lorain; step sons, Ventura S. "Ben" Guzman Lorain, and Jose L. Guzman Elyria; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Emilio Ortega of El Paso, TX, Nieves Ortega of Mexico; a sister, Paula Ortega of Lorain, Santa Ortega and Marta Ortega both of Mexico.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine (nee Cornejo) in 1989, parents, Narciso Arocho Ortega and Sidronia Vera Ortega; brothers, Tomas Ortega, and Roman Ortega; a sister, Susana Ortega.


The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, where funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.


The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Malgorzata Bak, Dialysis and Nephrology Associates of Northeast Ohio, and New Life Hospice.
