Jose Manuel Ruiz, 80 of Lorain, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a short illness.
He was born May 19, 1925 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, and came to Lorain in 1947 where he has lived since.
He retired in 1983 form Lake Terminal Railroad after 38 years of service. Prior to that, he worked at Fruehauf Trailer in Avon Lake.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, and enjoyed gardening. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Victoria (nee Medina); sons, Jose Manuel Jr. of Lorain, William of Amherst, and Eliseo of Lorain; daughters, Elsie Romero of Lorain, Blanca Carrero of Methuen, Mass, Gladys Diaz of Lorain, Mirium Coon of Amherst, Judith Thomas of Lorain, Amelia Boyer of Toledo, Maria Becker of Lorain, Edith Diaz of Lorain, and Raquel Holland of Lorain; 27 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Maria Ruiz, Ablanca Ruiz and Clotilde Ruiz all of Utuado Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Ruiz and Maria (nee Montalvo) Ruiz; a daughter, Angelina Ruiz in 1975; a brother, Rafael Ruiz, and a sister, Maria Ruiz.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where Funeral services will be Friday at 8:45 a.m. followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Manuel Cordova, visiting priest from El Salvador will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
