Jose A. Torres, age 61, of Lorain, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at Center Ridge Nursing Home, North Ridgeville, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1950 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain 60 years ago. He was a 1968 graduate of Admiral King High School. Jose was employed at Evonik Degussa for 23 years, before retiring in 2009. Before working there, he had worked for the Lake Terminal Railroad.
He enjoyed socializing with all of his family and friends and also enjoyed baseball.
Jose is survived by his son, Jose F., of Lorain, his daughters; Gricell Torres Negron and Cindy Torres Murphy, both of Elyria, 4 grandchildren; Victoria, Matthew, Alana, and Alyssa, brothers; James Torres and Robert Torres, both of Lorain, Sixto Torres, Jr., of Grafton, Jose Moret, of New York, and Victor Torres, of Arizona, and a sister, Evelyn Cruz, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Gricell (nee Madera) Torres, in 2003, and a sister, Carmen Torres, in 2009.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2710 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where his funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 10:00 am. The Rev. Mark Hebebrand, Pastor of the International House of Praise, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
