Jose A. Torres, "Don Jose", age 78, of Lorain, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a brief illness.
Jose was born on December 28, 1926 in Penuelas, Puerto Rico. He moved to Lorain 11 years ago from Puerto Rico.
He was a member of the United States Army during World War II, and worked as a Hospital Orderly.
Jose was employed as a health inspector for the Puerto Rican Department of Health. He was also a business owner for a furniture store and hardware store, both located in Puerto Rico.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.
Jose was very involved with politics in Puerto Rico and enjoyed spending any free time with his family.
Surviving him is 4 sons; Jose Anselmo "Billy", Jose Ramon "Pachy", and Jose Domingo "Chilin" all of Lorain, and Jose Orlando "Pepe" of Puerto Rico, his daughter Ruthiris Esther "Tatita" of Puerto Rico, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a sister, Rosa Esther Torres Vega.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Iris Maria Cruz, who died in October 1991, his parents, Domingo Torres in 1970 and Venancia Vega in 2000, and a sister, Presbitera "Presby" Torres Vega, in 1971.
The family will receive friends in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico at the Funeraria y Capillas San Ramon. Burial will follow in Penuelas, Puerto Rico at the Municipal Cemetery.
