Apostle Joseph M. Calabrese, 90, of Mesa, AZ, and formerly of Lorain, OH, entered eternal rest on December 5, 2008 at Hospice of the Valley, Friendship Village in Tempe, AZ.
He was born in Monessen, PA on January 10, 1918 to Antonio and Theresa Calabrese, coming to Lorain in 1930 where he lived until moving to Mesa in 2000. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. His beloved wife, of 69 years, Victoria (nee Thomas) Calabrese preceded him in death on June 24, 2006. He leaves to morn his passing, his children, Bonnie (Isaac) Smith of Mesa, AZ, Dennis (Anne) Calabrese of St. Michaels, AZ, Cheryl (Harry) Smith of Pinetop, AZ, Candace (Peter) Genaro of Gallup, NM, and Joel (Edna) Calabrese of Ashland, OH. There are 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was also "Dad" to nephew, Philip Aquilla of North Olmsted, OH. He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Calabrese was retired from the Prudential Insurance Company. He was an ordained Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel, headquartered in Monongahela, PA and traveled extensively world wide as a missionary for the Church.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel, 27th and Broadway Ave, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
