Joseph Emerick, age 95, of Lake Mary, FL, formerly of Lorain, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Emeritus at Lake Mary, FL, after a brief illness.
He was born on June 30, 1914, in Fort Pitt, Ohio, and lived in Lorain until his move to Ocala, FL, in 1978, after his retirement from B.F. Goodrich, Avon. Within the past year, he recently moved to Lake Mary, FL.
Joseph graduated from Lorain Admiral King High School in 1934 and was discharged from the US Navy in 1936. He attended Blitz Electrical School in Washington DC, and was employed in Ohio at the National Tube Steel Plant, St. Joseph Hospital, Leece-Neville, and Hill-Hubble. Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed dancing, golfing and acting on stage, with the "Spanish Oaks Seniors and Dancing."
Joseph is survived by his brother, Alexander Emerick, of Lorain, sister, Betty Pashkevich, of Lorain, brother-in-law, Andrew Vanche, of Avon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia (nee Vanche), in 1989, son Terrell A., in 1968, parents; John and Mary (nee Szuch) Emerick, and a nephew, Daniel Pashkevich.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 8, from 9:00 am until the time of services at, 1:00 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 pm, at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Charles Henkle OFM Conv., will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to, Make-A-Wish Foundation of American, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 29119, Phoenix, AZ 85038.
