Joseph Francis Lechowicz, age 96, of Winter Garden, FL, formerly of Lorain, died on Monday, June 26, 2006 at Health Central Hospital, Ocoee, FL, after a brief illness.
He was born on March 7, 1910 in Lorain, spending 43 years here, then moving to Cleveland for 7 years, and finally moving to Winter Garden, FL, for the remaining 46 years of his life. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1928.
Joseph was employed at US Steel for 7 years in Lorain, where he was also a small business owner from1943 until 1959. When he moved to Winter Garden, FL, Joseph was an owner of a fish camp for 25 years, until he retired in 1985.
He was an active member of Resurrection Roman Catholic Church in Winter Garden, FL. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church while residing in Lorain.
He was an expert fisherman for many years, enjoyed practicing his Polish and Spanish skills whenever possible, and he was also an avid reader.
Joseph is survived by his son; Joseph S. and his son's wife, Marion (nee Carbery), of Mt. Vernon, NY, his daughter; Elaine Moorman and his daughter's husband, Gene, of Clermont, FL, his 5 grandchildren; Scott and Brian Moorman, Mary Jo Lechowicz-Bello, Joseph M. Lechowicz, and Megan Cogswell, and his 4 great grandchildren; Hunter and Brock Moorman, Carolyn Cogswell, and David Joseph Bello.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen (nee Koziol) in 1997, a daughter, Mary Louise Lechowicz in 1960, his parents, Joseph and Antoinette (nee Oleszko), a brother, Anthony, and sisters; Francis Brosky, Helen Marciniak, Julia Hodovan, and Sr. Mary Valerian SSJ.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 1, 2006 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A funeral mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, at 10:00. The Rev. Fr. David Novak, Administrator of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church will officiate.
