Joseph J. Parker, age 62, of Lorain, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 12, 1948 in Pikeville, KY, living in Lorain most of his life.
Joe graduated from Brookside High School. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. After the Army, he served in the National Guard.
He was employed as a pipe inspector at US Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1999.
Joe was a member of Little Edna Church as well as the AMVETS, Lorain and Moose Lodge, Lorain. He enjoyed reading, going camping and being outdoors.
He is survived by a son, Chancellor Parker of Lorain, daughters; Nadine Parker and Melissa Parker, both of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, brothers; Berry, Shawn, John, Jimmy and Billy, and his sisters; Mercy Cander, Vina Deel, Christine Hunt, and Barbara Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Mary Elizabeth Parker (nee Deel), in 1998, parents; Rev. Walter and Edna (nee Rhodes) Parker, and 3 brothers; Robert, Drew and Richard Parker.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am. The Rev. Jerry Cassidy, Pastor of Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will provide Military Honors.
