Joseph Rozmarynowycz, 85, of Oberlin, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born May 15, 1924 in Hnizdichiv, Ukraine; he lived in the Czech Republic during World War II, then Germany. When he came to the United States, he lived in Philadelphia before settling in Oberlin in 1952.
Joseph worked as a tailor for JC Penny for 15 years, retiring in 1989.
He was an active member of St. John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, where he served as cantor for many years. He enjoyed reading and working around the house.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Sophia (nee Nakoneczny); and a son, Markian (Alicia) of Oberlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marta (nee Palushevska) Rozmarynowycz; brothers, Ivan and Michael.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where parastas will be conducted at 8:30 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by Liturgy at 10:00 am at St. John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, 3038 Charleston Ave, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Steven Poliwoda, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
