Joseph Schobel Jr, 84, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Autumn Aegis Retirement Community, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born July 29, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, he served 4 years in the US Army during the Korean War.
Joseph worked 33 years as a lineman for Ford Motor Company's Lorain Assembly Plant, retiring in 1991. For 25 years, Joseph delivered newspapers for the Morning Journal.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 425, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Loretta (nee Speroff); sons, Jerome of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Robert of Houston, Texas; a daughter, JoEllen Schobel of Lorain, a grandchild, Matthew Baumbick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna (nee Gidich); a son, Wayne; and a daughter, Judy.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am. Rev. Gerald Keller, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors. To send online condolences go to
