Joseph A. Sherbert Jr., age 78 of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at his residence while under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice.
He was born September 19, 1945, in Southbridge, Massachusetts to Joseph and Doris (nee Bonneau) Sherbert Sr. In 1964 he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps where he served two tours, serving in the Vietnam war. During his service he received the Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross, Civil Action Color as well as Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he joined the National Guard and worked for Ford until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked for the City of Lorain.
He loved to fish as well as go bowling where he joined several leagues with his wife, Josefa. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his children, Peggy (Randy) Stalnaker and Joseph A. (Lucy) Sherbert III; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a sister, Carolyn Colby.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Josefa Sherbert; both of his parents; granddaughter, Elenie Ambers; grandson, Carlos Sherbert, as well as a sister, Sue Hill.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.Monday, March 25, 2024
