Joseph P. Slavik, age 95, of Lorain, passed away on February 3, 2012, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
He was born on July 18, 1916, in Lorain, where he lived his entire life. Joseph attended Lorain High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for US Steel as an electrician, where he was employed for many years until finally retiring from there.
Joe was a life member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Czarnicki Lodge No. 1430 and United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed and took great pride in growing and raising his vegetables on his farm.
He is survived by his sister, Gladys Pokol, of Lorain, and his nieces
He was preceded in death by his parents; Kazimer Slavik, in 1965 and Barbara (nee Burda), in 1974, his brother, Frank, and a nephew, Richard Slavik.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Feb. 6, from 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. His funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, at 9:30 am, at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
