Joseph Tomshe, age 93, of Lorain, died Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, Lorain, following a short illness.
He was born March 18, 1913 in Trzic, Slovenia (Old Yugoslavia); and had lived in Lorain since 1951.
Joseph worked as a carpenter for Black River Lumber, for the American Ship Building Co., and then for Lorain County Community College, finally retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, ADZ Lodge No. 60 and the American Slovenian Catholic Union Lodge No. 85.
He enjoyed his work and his tools, Slovenian singing and music, was an avid reader and loved puzzles, animals and nature.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (nee Mastnak); son Herbert Tomshe; a daughter, Josephine Niemiec; 2 grandsons and 4 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Janez Tomse and Kristina (nee Rakovich); and a sister, Justina Tomse.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave, and again on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 9:30 a.m. Mass will follow at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Grove Ave., and Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
