Joseph J. Trelay Sr., 92, of Sheffield Village, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at Wesleyan Village, Elyria, following a short illness.
Born April 28, 1923 in Lorain, he moved Elyria in the late 1970's. He graduated from Lorain High School and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp then in the US Army serving during World War II.
Joseph worked at Lorain Works US Steel for 42 years as a carpenter retiring as a carpenter foreman in 1982.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria, the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20. He enjoyed boating and golfing.
Surviving is his daughter, Julie Trelay of Columbus; grandsons, Jason Trelay of Canal Winchester, William Witt of Elyria, Jonathan Witt of Colorado; a granddaughter, Jennifer Tipple of Wellington; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Elvira Berki of Lorain, Irma Sudomier of Avon Lake and Lona Trelay of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his son, Martin in 1957; parents, Julius and Elvira (nee Horvath) Trelay; his first wife, Ann (nee Rehoreg) Trelay in 1972; his second wife, Joan (nee Wierzbowski) in 2005; and a step daughter, Theodores "Teddy" C. Witt.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 - 6:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria. Rev. Donald H. Dunson, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
