Josephine Garcia

Josephine C. “Jody” Garcia (nee Silva) was born on Friday, November 22, 1929, in Lorain, and entered Eternal Life on Saturday, August 06, 2022, at the age of 92.

Jody graduated from Lorain High School in 1948 and worked full-time as a Lorain Head Start preschool teacher for 30 years, retiring in 1990.  All her life she was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Faith can be likened to a race.  It’s hard. It requires concentration of will, energy and soul.  Mom ran the race in her own way.  There is no formula for running this race.  There is elation when the runner breaks the tape.  So where does the power come from to see the race to its end?  From within.  Jesus said, “Behold the kingdom of heaven is within you.  If you truly seek me, you shall surely find me”.  Mom ran this race of life and won.  She is forever home with Jesus and all who have passed before her.

She was a member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain and enjoyed cooking and shopping.

Josephine is survived by her sons, David M. (Lori) Garcia and Matthew Garcia; a daughter, Jeanette (Rick) Fox; grandchildren, Jamie (Nick) Dodson, Cory (Dana) Garcia, Alexis (Michael) Ringwald, Joshua Garcia, Alyssa Garcia, and Jessica Garcia; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kolbe, Alex, Natalie Dodson, Dennis, Maverick, Dallas, Manuel, and Julian Garcia; and a sister, Tomasa “Mickey” Silva.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Andrea Silva; and sisters, Margaret Torrero, Arminia “Nene” Sandoval and Cruz Romero; and a brother, William Aguilar.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain.  Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, pastor will officiate.  Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.  The Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
