Joshua Herda, 29, of Lorain passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a 3 year battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 19, 1979 in Elyria, and lived in Huntington Twp until he was 9 years old. He then lived in Lorain until graduating from Admiral King High School in 1997. He attended Ohio State University and Lorain County Community College where he studied computer science. Joshua also lived in Mesa, Arizona for 2 years and Brunswick before returning to Lorain.
Joshua worked as a server for Applebee's in Westlake, Phoenix, AZ, and lastly in Strongsville.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain, and enjoyed golf, politics, history, reading and computers.
Surviving is his companion, Jennifer Pinto; his son, Elijah Herda and step-son Julian Velez both of Lorain; his parents, John and Cheryl (nee Dukate) Herda of Lorain; brother, Jesse of Lorain; and sister, Lauren Herda of Lorain; paternal grandmother, Agnes Herda of Lorain; and maternal grandmother, Harriet Dukate of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Herda in 2005; and maternal grandfather, Ralph Dukate in 1992.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary will be conducted at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Chuck Henkle, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
