Juan F. Figueroa, age 89, of Lorain, died on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Community Health Partners HSC- West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on January 27, 1917 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, coming to Lorain in 1948.
Juan served in the United States Army in the Philippines, Japan and briefly in Korea during World War II. He earned the American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Overseas Service Bars.
He was the last of the first immigrant that came to Lorain to work at the steel plant. He then retired from US Steel in 1978 after 30 years of service.
Juan enjoyed gardening & socializing with family and friends, especially church members of Iglesia Cristiana Pentecostal where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Ada E. (nee Segarra) of Lorain, sons: John Figueroa of Lorain, Hector R. Figueroa of Las Vegas, NV, daughters: Iris E. Aponte of Ste. Marie, Michigan, Sussette E. Trussell of San Diego, CA, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death his parents: Alberto in 1962 and Ramona (nee Feliciano) Figueroa in 1990 and daughter: Ruth E. Hernandez, and brother: Julio Figueroa in 1988.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Luis Cintron, pastor of Iglesia Cristiana Pentecostal will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park. The Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #20 will conduct full military honors.
