Juan Torres Serrano, 77, of Lorain, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, Lorain, following a short illness.
He was born October 28, 1928 in Ponce, Puerto Rico; coming to Lorain in 1970 until moving to Pompano Beach, Florida in 2000. He returned to Lorain 3 months ago.
He served in the US Army from 1949 to 1951. Juan worked for the Lorain City Street Department for 8 years retiring in 1980.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, and a former member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pompano Beach, Florida where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Juan enjoyed dancing, listing to music, cooking and being around his family. He also visited those who where sick.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Angela (nee Mercado); sons, Johnny Torres of Lorain, and Peter Torres of Cleveland; daughters, Angie Brown of Lorain, and Maritza Torres of Lorain; 9 grandchildren and 3 great granddaughters; sisters, Justa Colon of Florida, and Josephine Torres of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio Torres and Rafaela Serrano; and a brother, Raphael Torres Serrano.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
