Juan F. Torres, age 79, of Lorain, died on Thursday, September 07, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, West, Lorain.
He was born June 24, 1927 in Lares, Puerto Rico; he came to Lorain in 1958.
Juan served in the US Army during World War II.
He retired from Ford Motor Co., Sandusky, having worked as a machine operator there for 28 years. He also worked as a self employed plumber for many years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and the United Auto Workers Union.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, and visiting with family and friends.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Rosa (nee Carbasal); sons, Stanley Fernandez of Miami Beach, Florida, Melvin Fernandez of West Palm Beach, Florida, Marcos Torres of Lusby, Maryland, and Brando Torres of Lorain; daughters, Sandra Griffin of Baton Rogue, Louisiana, Magda Isidore of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Jennifer Walker of Lorain; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; sisters; Judith Fernandez, Sonia Fernandez and Emilia Fernandez all of Lares, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parent; Raphael and Emilia (nee Torres) Fernandez; brothers, Rafael, Nestor, Ajenol "Attila", Anacleto, Ramon and Fernando; sisters, Carmen Delia and Thelma.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans, Lewis Paul Proy Chapter 20, will conduct military honors.
