Juana B. Alicea, (nee Ortiz), 89, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 14, 1920 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, she moved to New Haven, Connecticut in 1975, living there until coming to Lorain 2000. She has been a resident of Amherst for the past 2 years.
Juana was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and flowers. She was a member of Iglesia de Dios Penticostal Cristo Rey, Lorain.
She is survived by her sons, Jose Flores of Pueblo, CO, Juan Miranda of New Haven, CT, and Miguel Saez of Cataño, Puerto Rico; daughters, Carmen Ortiz of Amherst, Antolina Guzman and Rosalia Carrero both of Lorain, and Ana Romero of New Haven, CT; 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Ramos in 1986; parents, Jose Alicea Rivera and Augenia (nee Ortiz) Rivera; a daughter, Josephina Miranda in 1998; a son, Agapito Saez; and many brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 - 9:00 pm at Iglesia de Dios Penticostal Cristo Rey, 1790 Reid Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 12:00 pm. Rev. Modesto DeJesus, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
