Julia Elena Hernandez (nee Otero), age 75, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord, on March 8, 2008.
She was born on February 28, 1933, in Ciales, Puerto Rico. At the age of 18, she moved to Bronx, New York, later moving to Ohio, where she resided for the past 52 years.
Julia was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She was employed at Green Circle Growers, K-Mart, and American Protective Clothing.
She enjoyed watching Spanish soaps, gardening, dancing, helping others in need, going to Church, and traveling.
She is survived by her sons; Nelson, Candido, Jr., and Norman, her daughters; Nancy E. Mynarsky, Nora Vicens, and Wanda M. Aponte, all of Lorain, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sisters; Rosa Otero, of Ciales, Puerto Rico, Carmen Rosario, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and Delia Otero, of Bronx, New York, and a brother, Ivan Lorenzana, of Lorain, and her long-time friend, Ana Feliciano.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Candido Hernandez, Sr., in 1993, a grandson, a great grandson, and her parents; Benancio Otero and Clotilde Isabel Lorenzana.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Thursday, at 8:30 am until the time of Mass at 9:30 am, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055. The Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
