Julia Quinones, (nee Velasquez), 87, of Lorain, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005 at the Specialty Hospital of Lorain following a short illness.
Born May 22, 1918 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1953 and has lived here since.
Julia was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lorain, and enjoyed listing to Spanish music, cooking, sewing, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Surviving are her three sons, Guillermo Quinones Jr., Osvaldo Quinones, and William Quinones all of Lorain; five daughters, Sonia Charles, Zulma Velez, Nancy Gonzalez, Irma Quinones, and Linda Quinones, all of Lorain; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brothers, Carlos Velasquez of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Manuel Velasquez of Puerto Rico, and Arsenio Velasquez of Florida; a sister, Paula Velasquez of Clarksville, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Guillermo "Guillo" D. Quinones in 1998; grandson Eric Charles; great granddaughter Desiree Whitfield; brother, Vincentito Velasquez.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will begin on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
