Deacon Julio Serrano, age 59, of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, after a brief illness.
He was born on July 20, 1952, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. He lived in Brooklyn, New York for 2 years, before finally moving to Lorain, in 1970. He worked at a greenhouse for a few years, before going to work at the Lorain Ford assembly plant, for 30 years, retiring from there in 2006.
Julio was a member of the Iglesia Pentecostal Cristo Misionera, where he served as a Deacon and took part in the Ministerio De Accion for many years. He was truly a man of God and had a deep-rooted faith.
He enjoyed lifting weights and working out. He was a good mechanic and cook and had a good sense of humor. Julio would help anyone who needed help, anytime.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Migdalia Serrano, of Lorain, daughters; Melissa Serrano and Melissa Rodriguez, both of Lorain, 5 grandchildren; JaLysa Starks, Felix Starks, Exzavier Flournoy, Jayden Flournoy, and Genesis Rodriguez, brothers; Luis, Pablo, Cirilo, and Felix, all of Lorain, and a sister, Carmen Sanchez, of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Nazario and Francisca (nee Rivera), both in 1979, and brothers; Rev. Agustin Serrano, in 2009, and Rev. Miguel Serrano, in 2011.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 23, from 2 - 4:30 pm, at the Templo Emmanuel, 4230 Clinton Avenue, Lorain, where an evening service will be held from 7-9 pm., also on Friday. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 10:00 am, in the church, with the Rev. Daniel Reyes, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
