Julius F. "Jay" Dohanos, age 89, of Sheffield Lake, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
He was born on August 18, 1922, in Lorain, and has lived in this area for his entire life. He was a 1942 graduate of Lorain High School, and then served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1945. Julius was employed at City Bank, first as a security officer, then as a cashier, for 31 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a devoted member of the Hungarian Reformed Church, where he was on the board as Trustee, and also a part of the "Kitchen Crew." He enjoyed all sorts of carpentry work.
Julius is survived by his daughters; Denise (Stan) Pozniak, of Oxford, FL and Debbie (Mike) Smith, of Amherst, 5 grandsons, 4 great granddaughters, 2 great grandsons, and a sister Helen Harrison, of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen M. "Kay" (nee Spalter), his parents; Andrew and Elizabeth (nee Cseh) Dohanos, brothers; Andrew, Bert, Stevan, and Bill and sisters; Elizabeth, Irene, and Margaret.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm. His funeral services will be held on Fri., at 10:00 am, at The Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st Street, Lorain. The Rev. Peter L. Toth, Pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp., with full military honors provided by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20.
