Katherine Cocco, a devoted member and long time Deaconess at The Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel in Lorain, passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic following a brave battle with breast cancer.
She was an active member of her church for 64 years, where she was known respectfully as "Sister Katherine". She enjoyed fulfilling her responsibilities at her church, where she serviced as Deaconess since 1974.
Her life centered on her church, faith and her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking bread and wedding cakes, sewing, painting, shopping, traveling, singing and playing the piano and organ.
Katherine was born May 31, 1930 in Lorain to the late Joseph and Assunta (nee Pasqualucci) Maselli. She has lived in Lorain her entire life, and worked for 20 years at the Lorain A & P Grocery Store as the head cashier.
Katherine is survived by her son, Joseph of Amherst; daughters, Deborah Cocco of Oberlin, and Dawn Cocco Dice of Columbus; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brothers, Tane of Grants Pass, OR, John of Malta, NY, Harry of Tulsa, OK, and Felix of Lorain; sisters, Rose Maselli-Scott of Grants Pass, OR, and Sharon Maselli of San Pedro, CA.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by he husband of 50 years, Michael in 2000.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 22, 2010 from 2-5 and 7-9 in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ Restored Gospel, 2655 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Elder Mark Naro, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, Twp.
