Kyriakos "Kary" Grumbos, age 78, of Lorain, died on Thursday, September 6, 2007, at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after a brief illness.
He was born on March 27, 1929, in Elyria, and resided in Lorain for his entire life. He was a 1947 graduate of Lorain High School. He then completed his Wireman apprenticeship for US Steel, and later, graduated from the Medina Police Academy. Kary had also attended the N.R.A. Police Firearm Instructional School.
He was a Lorain County Deputy Sheriff for 10 years. Previous to that, he was employed at US Steel, as a wireman, retiring after 40 years, in 1987.
He was a member of Hungarian Reformed Church, where he was the past President and Treasurer of the Men's Brotherhood.
Kary was an assistant Boy Scout Leader to Troop #347, past chancellor commander of the Holman Lodge #699 - Knights of Pythias, and was involved in Operation Open Heart. He also worked for the Lorain Emergency Police and the Lorain County Sheriff's Auxiliary Department.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty (nee Indre), a son, Kary John Grumbos, of Lorain, a daughter, Dorie Ann Little, of Avon Lake, 3 grandchildren, 4 great -grandchildren, and a brother, Christy Grumbos, of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Marie Grumbos, in 1975, his parents; John, in 1937, and Mary, in 1973, and a sister, Sarah Demos, in 1995.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 9 from 2:00 - 9:00 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
