Laura M. Mezlak (nee Meo), age 95, of Lorain, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Elyria Memorial Hospital, Elyria.
She was born on December 31, 1914 in Elyria. She is a 1934 graduate of Elyria High School. She was employed at American Lace Company from 1935-1943, then worked at General Industries, as an inspector for 25 years, from 1945 - 1970. Laura also worked at Sears Roebuck as a clerk and at Bendix. Laura enjoyed teaching music as well, especially the organ. She would entertain at the Brecksville Veterans Hospital, and would play the organ and sing for Christmas parties and weddings. She was also a member of the singing group, "The Kitchen Kuties," who entertained at local nursing homes. Laura played for the Jean Carroll Show from 1960-1970. She was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church.
Laura is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Steve A., in 1991. Laura is the last of the Meo siblings. Her brothers and sisters preceding her in death are; Egidia A. Provoznik, in 1973, Frances Alberts, in 1981, Frank A., in 1945, John A., in 1962, Anthony N., in 1998, and Joseph A., in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; Antonio and Laura Meo.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 6, from 6-8 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held Wed., at 9:30 am. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. The Rev. Fr. Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv., Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
