Leo S. "Lovers" Dzikielewski, 88, of Lorain, died Sunday, December 24, 2006 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 4, 1918 in Lorain, and has lived here his entire life.
He was a 1936 graduate of Lorain High School.
Leo served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the 401st Bomb Squadron. He participated in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 6 bronze stars, the American Theater Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Distinguished Unit Citation.
He retired from Lorain Works US Steel in 1980 after 30 years of service.
He was a former member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 of Lorain, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.
He enjoyed gardening.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Joan (nee Samsel); a daughter, Germaine Anuskiewicz of Lorain, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grand children; a sister, Lottie Sokolowski of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Dzikielewski; brothers, Frank in 2006, Joseph, Eddie, and Walter.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. followed by mass at 12:00 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, E. 28th and Elyria Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. David Novak, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Veterans of Foreign War Post 451, Lorain and American Legion Post 30, Lorain, will provide military honors.
