Leo J. Stronsky, 92, of Lorain, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a short illness.
Born Feb. 5, 1917 in Lorain, he has lived in Lorain his entire life.
Leo graduated from Lorain High School and worked for Lorain Works US Steel for 45 years, retiring as a supervisor in human recourses in 1985.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, where he served mass and ushered for many years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society of the church, a charter member of the Serra Club, and a member of the Lorain Senior Center. Leo volunteered for over 20 years at both St. Joseph Hospital and Community Health Partners. He also enjoyed golfing.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Helen (nee Godlewski); son, Dr. David (Joanne) Stronsky of Avon; a daughter, Dr. Karen (Thomas) Rowley of Berkley, CA; grandchildren, Leon (Tracy) Stronsky, Tiffany Stronsky, Sarah Stronsky, Heather Rowley and Erin Rawley; and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo in 1945 and Rosalia (nee Dorohowicz) Stroniewski in 1964; sisters, Eleanor Dusky in 1968, Ann Zalatel in 1993, Josephine Klingman and Stella Speck.
The family invites everyone to gather on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain for a funeral mass. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain is handling the arrangements.
