Lino Cortez, 73, of Lorain, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph Residential Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 23, 1933 in Michoacan, Mexico; he lived in Chicago and Houston before coming to Lorain in 2004.
He attended Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain.
He enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, growing tomato and chili peppers and plants used in home remedies, and evening walks.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Maria (nee Bucio); sons, Adalberto of Houston, Texas, Emiliano of Grand Junction, Michigan, Jose Luis of Melrose Park, Illinois, Abelino of Dallas, Texas, Lino Jr., of Cicero, Illinois; daughters, Josefina Cortes of Michoacan, Mexico, Esthela Sanchez of Como, Texas, Jacobita Cortez of Chicago, Illinois, Maria Perez of Como, Texas, Anita Saucedo of Covert, Michigan, and Maria L. Cortes of Lorain; 43 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Aurelio Cortez of Mexico and Salvador Cortez in Houston, Texas; sisters, Manuela Cortez of Mexico, and Cruz Cortez of Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tomas Cortes and Josefina (nee Sanchez) Cortes; brother, Jose Cortez; a sister, Fila Cortez.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
