Lionel J. "Johnny" Marquez, age 58, of Lorain, died on Thursday, May 4, 2006 at his residence following a long illness.
He was born on September 14, 1947 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, living in Lorain most of his life.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was employed as a mail carrier for the Lorain Post Office for 15 years, before retiring.
He was a former member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.
He loved music, and was an avid musician in his early years. He loved baseball, fishing, loved playing the lottery and talking about boxing with his son.
He is survived by his son: Dominic Dionisio Lionel Marquez, of Brandon, Florida, brother: William Marquez, of Lorain and sister: Alicia Marquez Gonzalez of New Fairfield, CT.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dionisio Marquez in 2001 and Adela C. (nee Crespo) Marquez in 1997, brother: Nelson in 1980 and sister: Maria C. Diaz in 1991.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans will conduct military service at 6:00 p.m. A Memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain will handle the arrangements.
