Lloyd T. George, age 82, of Lorain, died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon, following a lengthy battle with Alzheimers Disease.
He was born on August 9, 1922 in Athens, Georgia. Mr. George had lived in Lorain since 1942 coming from Cleveland, Tennessee.
During World War II he had served in the United States Army.
He had worked for US Steel for 30 years as a pipefitter, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Lorain Baptist Church, lifetime member of the VFW Post #451, Lorain, and was a former member of the Elyria Eagles Club.
He enjoyed ball room and polka dancing, playing cards and hanging out with his friends.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years: Anna (nee Thomas), 2 daughters: Connie Hammond, of Lorain, Barbara Gerhart, of Elyria, 4 sons: Lonnie George, of Lorain, Jerry Half, of Springfield, Ohio, Tim and Terry Garska, both of Wellington, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters: Mae Moore, of Twinsburg, OH, Naomi Gibson and Ruth Guy, both of Cleveland, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents: Rev. Charles George and Lessie Mae (nee Couch), step-mother: Nellie Beavers, and brother: Charles George.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain and also on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with his nephew, Rev. Bill Moore, pastor of the Lorain Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Where the VFW Post #451 of Lorain, will conduct graveside military rites.
