Louis J. Lopez, 94, of Lorain, died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, Lorain, following a short illness.
He was born August 20, 1912 in Michuacan, Mexico; he lived in Texas for a short time before coming to Lorain in 1924 where he had lived since.
Louis worked as a scalfer at Lorain Works US Steel for 33 years, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.
He enjoyed writing to the editor of the Morning Journal and to local, state and federal governments.
Surviving are his sons, David Lopez, Patrick Lopez, Christopher Lopez and John Lopez all of Lorain; daughters, Isabel Velazquez of Lorain, and Alicia Lopez of Steubenville; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Felipe Lopez and a sister, Mercedes Lupe.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Mr. Robert Dybo, Deacon of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, will officiate.
