Luis Ismael V. Maldonado, 85, of Lorain, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Lake Point Health Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 26, 1924 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in 1950 where he has lived since.
Ismael worked as a group leader in assembly at Lorain Works US Steel, retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and the Cursillo Movement. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed walking, gardening, watching baseball and wrestling. Ismael was a very sociable person who enjoyed the interaction with others.
Surviving is his sons, Ismael Jr., and David all of Lorain; daughters, Brunie Rodriguez and Jackie Velez both of Lorain; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria (nee Rivas) in 1986; sons Gilberto in 2007 and Nicholas in 1974, parents, Juan Maldonado and Maria (nee Vasquez) Maldonado; step father, Serafin Gutierrez; and a brother, Jose in 1998.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Wednesday from 8:30 am until the time of mass at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
