Magdalena Izak (nee Kolaczyk), age 90, of Lorain, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at the Lutheran Home in Westlake following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 24, 1916 in the Ukraine, coming to Lorain in 1949.
She worked at various greenhouses and farms in the Avon area, and retired from Lorain Products in 1985 where she worked as a coil winder. She also did housekeeping for many different Lorain residences and businesses.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain, and the Providence Association.
She enjoyed sewing, baking, ethnic cooking, and was an avid gardener. She was active at her church with pirohi making and bingo.
She is survived by her daughter, Olga Barbara Fazekas of Avon Lake; 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Izak in 1952; and 4 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a panachida service will be at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, E. 31st St. and Charleston Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Steven Paliwoda, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
