Margaret E. Belcher (nee Dickey) age 97, of Lorain, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Kingston of Vermilion following a lengthy illness.
Born April 9, 1920 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, she moved to Lorain 73 years ago.
Margaret worked as a store manager at Petrie's Corporation as a retail manager at both Midway Mall and Westgate Shopping Center for 25 years.
She was a member of the former Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church and a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church.
Margaret was very active in the community over the years. She volunteered and was active with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Senior Achievement Center, Easter Seals Respite Program and Catholic Community Services. She also served 2 terms as president at Lorain Community Senior Center and served on the board of directors for several years. She also ran the Lorain Senior Center bingo for several years.
Margaret enjoyed arts and crafts, reading, her pets and traveling.
Surviving are her daughters, Carole Klinar of Amherst, Judith (James) Scott of Lorain, Karen Carver of Amherst, Kathy Belcher of Lorain and Barbara (Carl) Rider of Elyria, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Eugene in 1980; and parents, Andrew and Margaret (nee Nixon) Dickey.
Private visitation and funeral services were held in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Chuck Boals, Chaplain of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church officiated. Entombment was held in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Avon. To send online condolences go to
