Margaret B. Herbert (nee Papcun), age 92, of Lorain, died on Friday, June 5, 2009 at her home, which she shared with her daughter, under the care of New Life Hospice.
She was born on July 4, 1916, in Guernsey County, Ohio, moving to Lorain in 1937, where she has lived the rest of her life. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Women's Guild.
Margaret volunteered at the former Lorain Community Hospital's Auxiliary Craft Group and at the Senior Multiple Purpose Center, with the Quilters Group, as a supervisor.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, making crafts, flowers, gardening, traveling, baking, and babysitting. Most importantly though, she enjoyed being with her family.
Margaret is survived by her son, Michael (Judy), of Wakeman, daughters; Mrs. Joseph (Margie) Yavornitzky, of Lorain, Mrs. Guy (Jean) Mendes, of New London, and Mrs. Alan (Mary) Jankowski, of Vermilion, 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Michael, in 1995, two grandsons, Tommy Perkins and Tony Seward, her parents; Anthony and Maria (nee Verba) Papcun, brothers; Jack , Tony, and Michael, and sisters; Mary Herbert, Helen Wilkins, and Nancy Heinrich.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 7, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where prayers will be held at 8:30 am on Monday. A funeral Mass will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain, at 9:00 am. The Rev. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
