Margaret J. Tokar, (nee Ondo) age 89, of Lorain died on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain following a six month illness.
She was born on July 31, 1917 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania and came to Lorain in 1919. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1935.
A member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain since 1920, she was the cantor there for many years and also the catering manager for 18 years. She currently was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain.
Proud of her heritage, she was active with the Hungarian Council and the Hungarian Citizens Club. Mrs. Tokar was also a former president of the Macrina Guild.
She is survived by 2 sons; Joseph R., of Amherst and Peter S., of Bay Village; 2 daughters; Rose M. Fess, of Xenia, OH and Marjorie I. Kantak, of Syracuse, NY; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1970; her parents Stephen and Rose (nee Szigeti) Ondo and her brother, Albert Ondo.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where a Patastas service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Nicholas Ratchford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
