Margarita Figueroa

June 10, 1920 — May 15, 2018

Margarita Jimenez Figueroa peacefully passed to be with her Lord May 15, 2018, in Lorain, Ohio.
Born June 10, 1920, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to Balbina Feliciano and Marcos Jimenez, and a descendent of The Taino Indians, she departed for New York City in 1942 to work for the Federal Treasury Department and aid in the war effort.
In 1949, she began her remarkable chapter as a leader, mother and wife in Lorain, where she made her indisputable mark as a force for the Puerto Rican community and voice for the disadvantaged children of the time. The Puerto Rican Home, the genesis of Sacred Heart Chapel above a butcher shop to serve the Puerto Rican Catholic Community, countless foster children, and the message of equality for all Hispanics was a mission pursued with great passion during a lifetime of service to the Catholic Church. Serving on Parish Councils in both Lorain and Sandusky, Ohio, she always spread the Good Word and served the disadvantaged, distributing the Eucharist and Catechism to the sick as well as communities of migrant workers with her servants heart. She loved hosting church groups, friends and family in her home and was renowned for her fabulous cooking and generous spirit. Her hands were rarely still and she was an avid gardener and accomplished seamstress, sewing countless wedding dresses for her community. Margarita was loved dearly by all who knew her and she returned that love tenfold. She loved her high heels, had impeccable style and leaped at opportunities to travel. Her sparkling smile, sweet disposition and unwavering desire to help one and all will be sadly missed and we are so grateful to have had her in this world.
She is survived by granddaughters, Tina Straw (Jeff Handley), Victoria Straw Gilles (Jonathan Gilles); great-grandsons, Jay Miller, Quinn Miller, Jackson Gilles and Tristan Gilles; great-great-grandson, Issac Miller.
Predeceased by her only loving daughter, Alba Maritza Figueroa Weber.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. June 30, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 4301 Pearl Ave. Lorain, OH 44055. Funeral Services were provided by Dovin Funeral Home 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain, OH 44055.
