Margarita Santiago (nee Ramos), passed away peacefully on May 23, 2019 at New Life Hospice in Lorain.
She was born February 6, 1918 to Adolfo and Dolores (nee Vasquez) Ramos in Florida, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in 1972. During her life, she fostered over 33 children.
A member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Margarita loved God, family and caring for others. She loved to cook for everyone as well as crocheting, sewing and gardening.
Surviving is her companion, Juan Cuevas; daughter, Gladys (Hernan Aponte) Santiago; grandchildren, Jose (Anya) Gonzalez and Jamie (Julius) McGhee; great grandchildren, Marc, Desiree, and Julius Jr.; great great grandchildren, Amani, Zaleeah, Nyori, Jalaya and Jalen Jr., sisters, Maria Pomales and Carmen Figuero; daughter in law, Yvonne Santiago; many nieces and nephews and best friend, Juanita Rosario whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by both parents; son, Jaime Santiago; daughter, Nancy Santiago; brothers, Jose Ramos and Adolfo “Fitin” Ramos and sisters, Adela Pomales, Miguelina Ramos, Guillermina and Aurelia Ramos.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. in the Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain and Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 9:00 A.M. until the time of Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Margarita’s honor may be made to Mercy Health Foundation, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053. A special thank you to nephew, Junior and Missy Medina as well as the staff of New Life Hospice for all their support during this time.
