Maria "Gela" Burgos, age 72, of Lorain, died after a brief illness, on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at The New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
She was born on May 25, 1933 in Orocobi, Puerto Rico, and had moved to Lorain 13 years ago.
Maria enjoyed playing Dominoes and watching her favorite Soap Operas.
She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Jose R. Rivera, her son, Angel Rivera, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, her daughters; Olga Rivera, of Lorain, Carmen Rivera, of Lorain, Maria Rivera, of New Jersey, Sonia Rivera, of Jacksonville, FL, Luz Rivera, of Lorain, Iri Rivera, of Bronx New York, and Annie Rivera, of Boston, MA, 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a sister, Kila Burgos, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
She is preceded in death by a son, Jose Rivera Burgos, a daughter, Maria Rivera Burgos, a grandson, Edgardo Alicea, on January 9, 2006, and her parents.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Casa de Dios y Puerta del Cielo, where services will be held at the following morning at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Tina Martinez, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling arrangements.
