Maria C. Zakowski, (nee Kinney), 85 of Lorain, entered eternal life following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home, Lorain.
Born Oct. 13, 1925 in Port au Prince, Haiti, she came to Lorain in 1939 where she has lived since.
Maria worked for Bendix Corporation in Elyria for 33 years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed knitting, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Joseph; sons, Michael Cherney of Avon Lake, and Mark Zakowski of Sheffield Township; a daughter Jeanne (Dale) Schwartz of Lorain; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Kinney of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her son, George Cherney Jr.; parents, Harry and Jeanne (nee Pasquet) Kinney; brothers, James Kinney and Harry Kinney Jr.; and sisters, Louise Kinney and Gloria Heller.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Richard Hudak, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lorain.
