Marjorie L. Gajdos, (nee Nelson) 79, of Lorain, died Friday, December 8, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, Lorain, after an illness of 3 months.
She was born on February 4, 1927 in Yreka, CA and graduated from Ft. Jones High School in Ft. Jones California in 1944. She moved to Lorain in 1960.
She formerly attended Broadway Assembly in Lorain, and was a life member of Fort Jones United Methodist Church. She served for 25 years in the Boy Scouts, beginning as a Den Leader, then District Treasurer and Blue and Gold Dinner Chairperson for 20 years. She was awarded the Cub Scouts District Award of Merit.
She was also known as "Grandma of G Street" for over 35 years of baby sitting for the many children in the area.
She decorated cakes for over 20 years and took pride in the wedding cakes she made. She was also a 20 year instructor of Tri-Chem (Liquid Embroidery). She was known for her crocheting and sewing. She played the piano, drums and guitar, singing mostly hymns and Christian music. She supported charities, especially Christian and safety force programs. She also loved cats.
Surviving is her husband Al Gajdos to whom she was married 62 years, sons: Robert of Amherst, James of Boise, Idaho, Donald of Auburn, WA and John of Lorain, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, two brothers: Robert Nelson of Ft. Clark Springs, Bracettville, TX and Edward Nelson of Bend, OR and two sisters: Barbara Cebellos and Lyda Teasley, both of Yreka, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Warren and Irene (nee Jordan) Nelson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 10, 2006 from 6-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where a funeral service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. by Rev. Matt Jones, pastor of Broadway Assembly. Burial will be in the Nelson Family Plot in Ft. Jones, California. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
