Martha E. Taylor (nee Alexander), 74, of Lorain, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born March 5, 1939 in Bragg City, Missouri, she came to Lorain at a very young age.
Martha attended Clearview High School and Northern Institute of Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician for 32 years at Lucy's Unisex Salon in Lorain, retiring in 1994.
A poet and song writer, Martha had won awards for the poems that she had written and was inducted into the International Poetry Hall of Fame. She enjoyed playing the guitar, gardening and taking care of people.
Surviving is her daughter, Dorissa Glass of Lorain; a son, Steven Alexander of Lorain; 4 grandsons and 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald of Gideon, Mo., Bobby of New Madrid, Co., and Gary of Amherst; sisters, Carolyn Royster of Brass City, Mo., and Betty Dulley of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by parents, James and Lillian (nee Risner) Alexander; a son, James Allen Taylor in 1963; brothers, Sherman and Henry; and a sister Bonnie Woods.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 pm until the time of memorial services at 6:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Bob Hancock will officiate.
