Mary Virginia Davis (nee Knotts), age 87, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, while under the care of New Life Hospice.
She was born on April 24, 1923, in Newburg, West Virginia, moving to Lorain in 1949. She graduated from Newburg High School in 1942. After graduation, she worked at Newburg Dept. Store and Stentos Meat Market. After moving to Lorain, she worked at General Industries, was a welder at Fruehauf, worked at Marty's Dress Shop, JC Penny's, and was an assistant at the Avon Lake Animal Clinic. Mary also babysat and did ironing for people.
She was a member of the former St. John Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Jolly 60's, in Elyria and the Senior Center.
Mary enjoyed crocheting and word search puzzles, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
She is survived by her sons; Gary Patrick Davis, of Elyria, David P., of Long Island, NY, and Keith E., of Lorain, daughter, Karen Ann Ortiz, of Elyria, 7 grandchildren, 1 adopted granddaughter, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, 2 half-sisters, and 1 half-brother. She is also survived by her 2 sisters-in-law; Francis Rosi and Katie Whitfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, James Leo Davis, in 1982, a son, Randy James Davis, in 1985, parents; Charles and Clara (nee Goff) Knotts, sister, Mabel Plottner, and a brother, Walter Dale Knotts.
The family held private services. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, handled arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Salvation Army, 2506 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055, or to St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain, Ohio 44055.
