Mary Farkas (nee Nazarkiewicz) age 96, of Lorain, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.
Born November 29, 1920 in Ford City, Pennsylvania, she came to Lorain as an infant and has lived here since. She was a 1940 graduate of Lorain High School.
Mary worked at May Company as a sales clerk in the ladies "Ready to Wear" department for 19 years, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Peter Parish, Lorain, and a former member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elyria.
Surviving is her son, Frank (Diane) of Anthony, Florida; a daughter, Judy (Bert) Elgar of Amherst; grandchildren, Lisa (Ray) Dietsche, Sheri (Shawn) Luster, Sandy (Bob) Duplay, David (Sue) Farkas, Bruce Farkas, Kristie (Terry) Farkas-Ferguson, Lisa Cosgriff, Mary (John) Sobotka, Eric (Caroline) Cosgriff and Tina (Dan) Terbrueggen, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren; a brother, Theodore Nazarkiewicz of Lorain; and a sister, Anna Haller of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1969; parents, Nestor and Katherine (nee Sykuta) Nazarkiewicz; and a brother, Wasyl "Willie" Nazar in 2013.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the nurses, aids and hospice staff of Amherst Manor for their kind and loving care of our mother.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:30 am. Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, pastor of St. Peter Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. To send online condolences go to
